KARACHI:

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ordered suspension of two FIA officials for accepting bribes from passengers of an international airline. The two suspended officials include FIA inspector Tahir Durrani and Constable Khalid Mansoor.

Passengers had complained about these officials to the Interior Minister at the Islamabad airport. Malik has ordered an investigation into the matter and has also formed an FIA taskforce to crack down on corruption in all departments. Speaking to the media at Karachi airport, Malik vowed that corruption will be visibly reduced in the coming months.

Earlier in the day, Malik chaired a high level meeting of FIA officials in Karachi to take stock of his ministry's campaign against corruption in government departments. The information minister also revealed his personal cell number and invited the people to call him directly to register complaints against corrupt elements.

The FIA Director General has also made his cell number public for the same purpose.
