KARACHI:
Trials for the final selection of an 18-member hockey team for the forthcoming Champions Trophy will be held on Thursday at the Hockey Club of Pakistan.
The probables include Muhammad Rizwan Sr and Rashid Mehmood, who returned to Pakistan on Wednesday from their international leagues in Holland.
When asked about the fitness and training of the two players, head coach Shahnaz Sheikh said the players were taking part in ‘A grade’ professional leagues in Holland, from which they must have gained some experience.
“Their fitness test will be taken before the trials and if they succeed in clearing it, they will be included in the final squad,” he added.
The team will depart from Lahore to Amritsar via Wagah Border on December 2 to participate in the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to run from December 6 to 14 in Bhubaneswar, India.
