Philanthropy: ‘Expats always up for welfare projects’

They expect their funds to be used transparently: Vohra.

LAHORE:
Overseas Pakistanis are always ready to participate in welfare projects in their country, Sarfaraz Islam, a US-based Pakistani philanthropist, said on Sunday.

She was speaking at a reception arranged in her honour for donating Rs40 million to upgrade dialysis centre of Lahore General Hospital (LGH).

“Overseas Pakistanis expect that their donations would be used transparently,” Islam said. She pledged another Rs20 million for the construction of an ICU for kidney patients at the LGH.

LGH Principal Anjum Habib Vohra said several people had donated Rs120 million for welfare projects at the LGH since he assumed the office.

He said Sarfaraz’s contribution had helped buy 10 dialysis machines, raising the number of equipment to 26 at the hospital. He also praised the Patients Welfare Society for their services.
