Detainee tells his brother wanted to marry Maryam, but her father did not agree to the proposal

FAISALABAD:
Police claimed on to have recovered a college student abducted on Thursday in Samundri Saddar area. City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Habib Tajik told The Express Tribune that Maria Khan*, daughter of Muhammad Arshad Gujjar was going to college with a classmate in a rickshaw when they were stopped by two men on a motorbike. He said the men took Maryam with them at gunpoint. The CPO said after the incident, her family had protested near Adda Moti Keekar and blocked the road for traffic. The CPO said during investigation, police found that Muhammad Usman, a resident of Sabzi Mandi, had kidnapped the girl. He said two police teams conducted raids and detained Abid Ali, Usman’s brother. He said Ali told them that Usman had wanted to marry Maryam but her father had not agreed to the proposal. He said Usman later was arrested in a raid in Chak 62-JB and Maryam was recovered.
