Punjab CM takes notice as death toll in DHQ hospital nursery reaches 18
Shahbaz Sharif orders registration of cases against culprits, investigation into deaths

As hospital authorities continue to render negligent medical treatment in Punjab, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the deaths taking place in District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Sargodha, Express News reported on Saturday.
The chief minister ordered police to register a case and arrest the culprits after a three-member investigation committee sent him a comprehensive report on the matter.
The death toll has now reached 18 in the past four days as two more children died on Saturday due to insufficient health facilities in the nursery at District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Sargodha.
While the parents of both the children blame the hospital staff for providing insufficient oxygen supply, the hospital management had denied the allegations.
However, a senior doctor at the hospital, Adilah, told Express News yesterday that there was indeed a lack of oxygen at the nursery ward and each child was receiving far less oxygen than they required.
“The resources available to us are not sufficient however, we are doing our best,” she added.
She further explained that there were very few incubators to cater to the increasing number of children being admitted to the ward. Further, the medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital had recently constituted an inquiry team to probe into the deaths of children.
