Reviving heritage: Tulambah Fort to be restored

MULTAN: The 250-year-old Tulambah Fort built by the founder of Sur dynasty Sher Shah Suri for defence purposes at Tulambah in Khanewal would undergo a maiden restoration and conservation process at a cost of Rs 68.224 million. Khanewal DCO Muhammad Usman Moazzam said the Punjab Archaeology Department had prepared an estimate of the cost of renovation at his request. He said the project would be formally approved by Multan commissioner next week. Located on eastern edge of the River Ravi between Abdul Hakeem and Mian Channu, Tulambah is a small town and where Rachnavi Punjabi is spoken. According to the Punjab Archaeology Department, Tulambah is more than 250 years old. The DCO said a major portion of the fort wall and the bastions were occupied by encroachers. He said some bastions were missing and damaged portions of the wall needed to be rebuilt. He said the gate of the fort was missing and officials had proposed to build two entrance gates on the north and south side.
