Opposition campaign: Go Shahbaz is PML-Q’s new slogan

‘We believe the Punjab is the PML-N’s real base of power’.

LAHORE:
As the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s slogan Go Nawaz Go becomes a viral chant, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid is set to launch its Go Shahbaz Go campaign in the province.

Party leaders said their campaign would focus on highlighting failures of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his government in the Punjab.

A senior party leader told The Express Tribune that PML-Q workers will travel to every constituency in the Punjab and raise awareness regarding PML-N’s poor performance in the Punjab and the losses incurred because of their bad decisions.

He said while the PTI was focusing on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the federal government, “we believe that PML-N’s real base of power is the Punjab”.

The party leader said that the PML-N had damaged the interests of the very province that had brought it to power.

“This government has gone back on most of its promises. The prices of electricity in Pakistan are higher than in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Punjab’s farmers are suffering the most as nothing has been done for them in seven years,” he said.

He said the PML-Q might contact other parties to muster support for the campaign. “Pakistan Awami Tehreek chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has been demanding the chief minister’s resignation because of the Model Town violence but we want him out for his poor performance. If this campaign brings immediate results it will be beneficial for the Punjab and its people in the coming elections,” he maintained.

MPA Chaudhry Moonis Elahi confirmed that the party was planning to launch the campaign. “In fact, we have already begun... we held a seminar to discuss the Kalabagh Dam this Sunday in Islamabad. Experts discussed how the delay in the construction of the dam had damaged the country and the people of the Punjab,” he said.

He said the PML-Q planned to hold public gatherings in all districts of the province. The first gathering was planned for November 22 in Bahawalpur, he said.

“There is a leadership vacuum in the Punjab. No party has a suitable candidate to stand against Shahbaz Sharif and challenge his performance and policies. His policies have put the province in reverse gear.”

He said the PML-Q was trying to field Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as its candidate against Shahbaz Shaif. “The meetings we have planned for every constituency in the province will not only help reorganise the party, but also create momentum for our Go Shahbaz Go campaign,” he said.
