Show of strength: Jamaat-i-Islami gears up for three-day convention

LAHORE:

The three-day ijtema (convention) of the Jamaat-i-Islami at the Minar-i-Pakistan grounds will start on Friday (November 21) with a spirited address by the Akhwanul Muslimoon Egypt chief.

The schedule of events for the ijtema was announced on Monday by the JI media committee, headed by party’s central information secretary Ameerul Azeem.

It says JI ameer Sirajul Haq will present a ‘people’s agenda’ after the Asr prayers on the opening day, aiming at building the country into a truly Islamic welfare state. The three-day convention will have 10 sessions.

On the second day, an international session will be addressed by leaders and representatives of Islamic movements in various countries. On the same day, women representatives from all over the world will participate in an international women’s conference.

A national session on the second day will be attended by leaders of major political and religious parties.

There will be a seminar on Quran and Sunnah on both days.

On the concluding day (Sunday), JI chief Sirajul Haq will unfold his line of action for the revival of the Pakistan movement at 1pm, drawing parallels with the objectives set by the founding fathers during their struggle for a separate Muslim homeland.

The student wings of the JI, the Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba and the Jamiat-i-Talaba-i- Arabia, and the JI youth body, Shabab-i-Milli, will host special programmes at the event.

The participants will stay at the camps set up at the venue of the ijtema during the three days.

Their days will start with Fajr prayers. The prayers will be followed by Dars-i-Quran and Dars-i-Hadith sessions. The political programme will begin at 9am. The events on Saturday and Sunday will continue late into the evening with breaks for prayers and meals.
