Four cops suspended for negligence

Three robbery incidents took place in Jhaal Chakian area in one night.

SARGODHA:
The Sargodha district police officer on Sunday suspended a station house officer, an assistant sub-inspector and two constables after nearly 300 residents of Jhaal Chakian protested against police for failing to curb crime in the area.

They gathered at Khushab Road and blocked it for traffic. They also tried to break into a police station there.

Muhammad Akram, one of the protesters, said robbers had forcibly Muhammad Asif’s shop late on Saturday night.

Akram said Asif’s father, Hameed, was present at the shop at the time. The robbers shot him and fled. Hameed died on the spot.

He said a few blocks away, some men broke into Abdul Malik’s house and shot him when he resisted.

He said the same night, some men had broken into Saleem Hasnain’s in VIP Town. They had collected valuables and fled firing shots in the air.

“All these incidents happened Jhaal Chakian area,” he said.

He said police had been informed but they had failed to arrest the suspects.


The protesters chanted slogans against the police and placed Hameed’s body on the road.

They demanded suspension of the Jhaal Chakian SHO.

Later, Sargodha DPO Attaur Rehman reached the scene and met with the protesters.

He listened to their demands and suspended SHO Rafaqat Virk, ASI Zafar and Constables Ishaq and Qaiser.

He also formed a team under to investigate the matter and ordered them to submit a report within a week.

He assured them that action would be taken against the officials if they were found to have been negligent.

The protesters then dispersed.

It should be mentioned that Rs28 million were stolen in a robbery in the same area last week and the police had failed to find any suspects.
