Fight the virus: Special polio drive going smoothly, say health officials

Claimed to have achieved around 90% of the target set for the first two days of the four-day polio drive

KARACHI:

Health officials claimed to have achieved around 90 per cent of the target set for the first two days of the four-day special polio drive being conducted in the 11 most-sensitive union councils (UCs) of Karachi.

All 692 polio teams have been provided police security while Rangers personnel have been deployed in some areas. Over 243,307 children will be administered polio drops in the campaign.

"We have covered 90 per cent of the target set for the first two days," said the focal person and senior director for health services, Dr Zafar Ejaz. "The drive is going smoothly," he added.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Muzaffarabad Colony of Quaidabad when unidentified persons opened fire during the polio campaign in the area. When the gunfire started, the police immediately escorted the polio team members back to their offices.
