Left out: Doctors association to protest against changes in health sector
PDA chairman says government has been bringing changes to the health sector without considering the doctors' concerns
PESHAWAR:
The Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) has announced a news conference for Tuesday where it will highlight the government’s neglect of doctors’ welfare. There the association will present its agenda and strategy regarding key issues.
PDA Chairman Shah Sawar told The Express Tribune the government has been bringing changes to the health sector without considering the concerns of the sector’s stakeholders; doctors. Sawar added doctors have reservations on several issues but the government is reluctant to listen to them.
“[Medical professionals] have been looking forward to some positive changes in the health sector for a year,” he said. “Instead of helping them, the government is busy disgracing doctors by pointing fingers at them during surprise visits.” The PDA, he said, has decided to take to the streets in order to get their voices heard.
“We demand stipends for trainee medical officers, health officers and those doing house jobs.” He added all stakeholders should be taken on board to plan policies for the health sectors.
Sarwar said the Postgraduate Medical Institute should be strengthened and should not be merged with Hayatabad Medical Complex without consulting the institute’s authority.
