The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned district South's SSP and the SHOs of the Saddar and Preedy police stations to explain their position on allegations that they are extorting money to allow encroachments in their areas.
Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, the bench also ordered the head of the anti-encroachment cell and others to remove illegal encroachments from Saddar and submit reports by November 27.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by Rana Faizul Hasan, who had taken the municipal and police authorities to the court for failing to clear Saddar of illegal encroachments.
On Thursday, the incharge of the anti-encroachment cell complained that they are facing hurdles in carrying out operations to remove encroachments in the town.
The petitioner alleged that the police are allowing encroachments in the locality. "Those occupying public roads in an unauthorised manner pay extortion to the SHOs every month," he claimed.
The judges directed South SSP, and Saddar and Preedy police SHOs to appear at the next hearing to explain their position.
