Khairpur accident: NHA suspends 3 officials on charges of negligence
Highway authority pins blame on driver, says he had not slept for past 23 hours

The National Highway Authority (NHA) on Friday suspended three officials on charges of negligence that led to the deadly road accident near Khairpur, Express News reported.
At least 60 people were killed and several others sustained injuries when a passenger bus collided with a truck on Theri Bypass on November 11.
The suspended officials were directed to report to NHA officials in Islamabad.
The authority also completed its initial inquiry into the accident. In its report, NHA accused the driver of taking a wrong U-turn which led to the collision with the truck. The report also said the driver had not slept for past 23 hours.
NHA further noted that the roads near the crash site were in good condition at the time of the accident.
Initially, the highway authority had been partially blamed for the incident with reports that the NHA had failed to provide an alternate route to commuters before starting the construction work where the accident took place.
An FIR was filed against NHA and Sindh High Court’s Sukkur bench had also issued a notice to its chairperson asking for a report regarding the construction on the highway.
