Balochistan: BPSC chairman sacked

Inquiry was initiated two years ago on allegations of corruption

QUETTA:
Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai has sacked Chairman of the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) Ashraf Magsi over charges of irregularities and corruption.

“A formal letter of termination was issued to the chairman by the governor after Balochistan High Court Judge Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan concluded the inquiry,” a senior official of Governor House told The Express Tribune, “Ashraf Magsi was found guilty and had been terminated following the findings of the commission.”

After the growing complaints of irregularities and corrupt practices, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had initiated an inquiry two years ago. A NAB team had raided the BPSC offices and confiscated the examination records of the last two years as part of an investigation into irregularities in appointments.

The accountability court initiated the inquiry against the recruiting of officers in violation of merit. Magsi’s son and daughter were also recruited on grade 17 posts in the education department.

Magsi was also accused of recruiting officers above grade 17 in violation of merit.

According to sources, all the appointments made by the sacked chairman had been recommended to be thoroughly probed by an independent commission.
