Boy killed for letting his goat graze on neighbour's lands
Police claim the murder was a result of an old enmity between two tribes
SUKKUR:
Khairpur police claim to have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in the murder of a boy, whose goats had crossed into their agricultural fields near Mud Sharif village in Sobhodero police limits, Khairpur district, on November 8.
According to sources, nine-year-old Mir Abdullah, son of Abdul Rasheed Pitafi, used to take his goats to graze in the nearby fields. On November 8, he had taken his goats to the fields when one of the animals crossed into the agricultural field of Bahadur Kanasra, who was sitting there with his son, Mazhar Ali Kanasra.
As soon as they saw the goat cross into their land, both of them ran towards Mir Abdullah and attacked him with a hatchet. The minor boy died on the spot while the accused fled from the scene. On getting news of the incident, Abdullah's parents and relatives rushed to the scene and found the boy already dead.
Subsequently, the police were called in and the body was taken to Sobhodero hospital for postmortem. The victim's uncle, Muhammad Amin Pitafi told The Express Tribune that Abdullah was the youngest of seven siblings and was only nine years old.
He added that the perpetrators were quite influential which is why the police had initially been reluctant to register an FIR against them. On Thursday, several members of the Pitafi tribe protested outside the police station after which the police registered an FIR against the assailants and arrested them. He expressed concern, however, that they would be set free as they were influential landlords of the area.
For his part, the Sobhodero police SHO Sodho Khan Lashari confirmed that the FIR had been registered, saying that the accused will be produced before the court. He claimed that the murder was a consequence of an old enmity between the Pitafi and Kanasra tribesmen, which had claimed the lives of several people in the past.
