Clean and green: Cleanliness drive kicks off in Muzaffarabad
Premier, govt officials lead walks to stress environment protection.
MUZAFFARABAD:
To maintain cleanliness of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK)’s capital, the government has launched a week-long cleanliness drive in Muzaffarabad. The drive was kicked-off by acting Prime Minister Chaudhry Latif Akbar along with other ministers and senior officers.
Members of the civil society, general public and schoolchildren also participated in the campaign and collected garbage from different areas of the Civil Secretariat.
While talking to the media, the acting premier said the drive would be expanded to other districts and tourist spots of the region to keep the environment neat and clean.
AJK Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Shaheen Kausar Dar also led a walk from the assembly to the MLA Hostel which was attended by dozens of government employees.
While addressing participants, Dar said cleanliness is part of our faith and its promotion must be the top priority of every educated being on the planet.
AJK Education Minister Mian Abdul Waheed and environment minister Shazia Akbar also collected garbage to kick-off the cleanliness drive in Ali Akbar Awan Government High School where hundreds of students also joined the drive to promote the theme of “Keep Muzaffarabad Clean”.
Akbar said on the occasion that banning plastic bags was a good decision of the Environmental Protection Agency and the government will give special powers to the district administration to punish those violating the ban on plastic bags.
