Over ‘honour’: Alleged kidnapper killed in police custody

Shot dead by brother of teenage girl the deceased was accused of abducting.

SHABQADAR:
A man was gunned down in the name of honour while in police custody in Shabqadar on Thursday.

Police official Abdul Rasheed Khan told The Express Tribune Jalal Khan was arrested on charges of kidnapping Zainab, daughter of Ayub Khan. Later, Jalal confessed Zainab married him after he took her willingly to Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

On Thursday, Zainab’s brother Daud Khan ambushed Jalal in front of Shabqadar courts, killing him on the spot. Daud was promptly arrested after the attack.

Daud told the police Jalal had kidnapped his 14-year-old sister Zainab. Daud added he was “proud of killing Jalal”.

Shabqadar Bar Association called off the case’s hearing after the incident and also announced a boycott of court proceedings.

The bar association blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for interfering in police matters, thus affecting peace in the tehsil.

Police are trying to track down Zainab, fearing she might have been killed as such cases of honour killing usually end claiming the lives of both the man and woman involved.
