Shehzad aiming for speedy recovery
Injured Pakistan batsman eager to return to UAE for third Test.
KARACHI:
Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad, who returned home late Tuesday following a cheekbone fracture during the first Test against New Zealand, is targeting a quicker comeback to the national team than originally suggested by medical specialists.
Shehzad has scored three centuries this year since making his debut in December 2013.
The 22-year-old opener was hit by a bouncer from Corey Anderson and doctors ordered a three-week rest to recover from the blow. But the in-form batsman is reluctant to remain away from action that long and is keen to join the team for the third Test, which will be played in two weeks’ time.
“I’ll try to recover soon by getting a lot of rest as I don’t want my good form to go to waste,” said Shehzad on his return to Pakistan.
The flamboyant batsman asked fans and media to back the team since they are enjoying a good run and it will probably be the same players who will feature in the 2015 World Cup.
