Speaking up: Missing persons of Swat remain untraced
Defence of Human Rights and Public Service Trust (DHR) Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua has said the missing persons of Swat have not yet been traced, causing their families constant torment.
Janjua was addressing the media at a news conference at Swat Press Club on Wednesday where the families of the missing persons were also present. The chairperson said a majority of the missing persons in the country are from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) whereas Swat tops the list. “Hundreds are illegally detained in internment centres by law-enforcement agencies,” she said.
She added DHR has submitted a petition against the alleged extrajudicial killings by law enforcers.
She said the provincial government has disappointed them by not doing anything about enforced disappearances.
Janjua has asked both provincial and federal governments to take practical steps for the immediate release of those incarcerated in internment centres without due process. She also demanded family members be allowed to meet their relatives at the centres, and their relatives be presented before the courts.
