ANF busts: Five suspected smugglers nabbed, contraband seized

Three others nabbed for receiving drugs from suppliers.

ISLAMABAD:
Officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Tuesday arrested eight people for being involved in drug running in three different incidents in the garrison city.

In the first incident, during routine checking at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, ANF’s airport team detained a Filipino woman, identified as Emelita Escala Hernandez, and recovered 1.8kg of cocaine from her possession.

The drugs were tactfully concealed in metallic glasses, according to initial investigations. The woman reportedly arrived in the capital from Brazil via a Qatar Airlines flight.

Another ANF ream busted a local drug running group and arrested five suspected traffickers. According to an official, the operation resulted in the recovery of 7.2kg of hashish. Officials intercepted a Toyota Corolla (HD-878) near Tarnol Railway Gate and recovered 4.8kg of hashish concealed in it. Two suspected smugglers, identified as Munir Ahmed, a resident of Peshawar, and Muhammad Adnan, a resident of Mansehra, along with the recipient of the contraband, Ajab Gul, were taken into custody at the spot.

Following a tip from the suspects, another operation was conducted in which an alleged drug trafficker, identified as Kohar resident Noor Muhammad and a recipient identified as Shabeer, a resident of Rawalpindi, were arrested along with 2.4kg of hashish. Both were arrested while riding on a motorcycle near Shamsabad, Rawalpindi.

Separately, ANF recovered 1.5kg of opium from the possession of Muhammad Altaf Khan, a resident of Attock. He was arrested at Dhullian Cowk, Pindigheb and is said to be a drug supplier at the local level.

Cases have been registered against all those arrested under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997 and further investigations are under way.
