Targeted attack: Policemen guarding Imambargah shot dead

Tortured body of PPP Punjab Additional Secretary Haji Salim Cheema’s son found from his house

RAWALPINDI:
Two police constables were killed and two others were injured on Monday when unidentified men riding on a motorcycle opened fire on them while they were stationed outside an Imambargah within the limits of Sadiqabad police station.

According to police, the assailants tried to attack Shia mourners during a congregation at Rizvia Hall near Bilal Hospital in Sadiqabad. Instead, they opened fire on the police present at the barricade set-up to guard the Imambargah.

Constable Muhammad Waheed and Qamar Shah died on the spot while two other constables, Adeel and Yasir, were left critically injured in the firing.

A passer-by Muhammad Rizwan was also injured in the attack. Rizwan received gunshot wound to the head, they added. The bodies were taken to DHQ hospital while the injured were rushed to Benazir Bhutto Hospital.


Body found

Meanwhile, the body of PPP Punjab Additional Secretary Haji Salim Cheema’s son was found from his house located near Naya Muhala in Bara Market area on Monday.

DSP Sardar Babar Mumtaz said that the body of 36-year-old Rasheed Cheema bore torture marks and appeared to be two days old.

“The victim was stabbed and clubbed to death by unknown men,” Mumtaz said.

Police have filed a case and have started investigations.
