Desperate measures: Mother hurls child to save her from fire

Cloth worth thousands of rupees was burnt in the fire.

LAHORE:
A woman threw her two-year-old daughter from first floor window of a building on Monday and then jumped after her to escape a fire at her house. Parveen Bibi, a resident of Green Town, and her daughter were taken to Jinnah Hospital where they were later stated to be out of danger. The fire at a warehouse on the ground floor of the building had erupted at 1pm due to an electric short circuit. “The fire engulfed the building and it was not possible for the residents to come downstairs,” said Mubasher Khan, a witness. “Parveen acted wisely. She first threw her daughter to a person standing downstairs and then she jumped too,” Khan told The Express Tribune. Another witness said that although Rescue 1122 had been called, Parveen could not afford to wait for them. “Two lives were saved due to Parveen’s sharp presence of mind.” Cloth worth thousands of rupees was burnt in the fire.
