The Supreme Court of Pakistan was moved on Monday against the nomination of retired judges for their appointment as chief election commissioner (CEC). Barrister Zafarullah Khan filed the petition at the Lahore registry of the court submitting that political parties were floating the names of retried judges for the office. He said the retired judges were too old to effectively manage the affairs of the Election Commission. He said being too old former CEC Fakhruddin G Ibrahim had been unable to deliver 100 per cent for. He said Article 177 of the Constitution allowed the government to appoint any lawyer who was eligible to be appointed a Supreme Court judge or who had 15 years of experience.
