The government on Sunday banned the use of fire brigade vehicles for other purpose than their intended purpose.


DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal said orders in this regard had been received from the Local Government Department. He said the orders had been communicated to all district governments after over 5,000 complaints were received from citizens and departments in a year.


The DCO said citizens had complained that some rescue vehicles were being used to water plants or dust down venues for political gatherings.


He said the complainants had alleged that the vehicles were being used at sports grounds and gardens.


District Civil Defence Officer Rao Tariq told The Express Tribune that fire vehicles were being used by the cantonment, Rescue 1122 and the district government.


He said as many as seven fire vehicles were being used for watering plants.


He said Rescue 1122 fire vehicles were used for emergencies and Rescue operations.
