ISLAMABAD:
Gunmen shot dead an Intelligence Bureau (IB) official and a police constable in two separate incidents in Attock district on Saturday.
More than 24 hours after the two attacks, the police are still clueless about the perpetrators.
Police sources told The Express Tribune unidentified attackers riding a motorcycle opened fire at IB official Qamar Aneess when he was at a hotel in Attock’s main bazaar for breakfast on Saturday morning. Anees, a resident of Mari Kanjoor village in Attock district, died on the spot.
The body was taken to DHQ Hospital and later handed over to the family. The police have registered a case against unidentified attackers but have not made any arrests.
In another incident, a police constable was shot dead on Sanjwal-Attock Road near Dhok Jogian on Saturday evening. Bilal Ahmed, a resident of Shakardara village, was headed home after his duty finished at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal. The post-mortem found that Ahmed was shot twice in the neck.
Attock Saddar police have registered a case against unidentified persons and say they are making all-out efforts to trace the killers.
The deceased were laid to rest in their native villages.
Sikh pilgrim dies
An Indian Sikh pilgrim died of cardiac arrest at the Gurdwara Panja Sahib on Saturday. Malkiat Singh had come from New Delhi to attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak. The body has been dispatched to Delhi via Wagha in a Red Cross ambulance.
