Merit: Traders association calls for cancellation of illegal chamber licences

ISLAMABAD:

The I-11 Wholesale Fruit Market Traders Welfare Association General Secretary Tahir Ayub appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to order a probe into the issuance of illegal trade licences and urged the premier to have the Directorate General of Trade Organisations revoke them.

He said the law for establishment of small traders’ chambers was made last year, but unfortunately, chamber licenses in the federal capital have been issued to big businessmen including the owners of plazas and CNG stations in Islamabad.

Ayub called upon the government to take notice of this illegal practice and insisted that the licences be issued on merit. Addressing a meeting of wholesale fruit market traders, he said that due to the issuance of small traders’ chamber licence to bigger businessmen, small traders in Islamabad feel frustrated.

He said The ICT Chamber of Small Traders had applied for the licenses after fulfilling all required formalities, but unfortunately, the Directorate General of Trade Organisations issued licences to other businessmen.
