PARACHINAR:
A retired Frontier Corps (FC) official was severely injured when he stepped on a landmine in Pewar area near the Pak-Afghan border in Upper Kurram Agency.
According to an official of the political administration, 55-year-old Fida Hussain was returning home after collecting wood from the mountains around 11am when he stepped on a landmine in Razghay.
The official added locals rushed to the site upon hearing the blast and shifted the severely injured tribesman to Agency Headquarters Hospital Parachinar.
Doctors had to amputate his leg and referred him to a hospital in Islamabad.
“Hussain is a retired FC official and works as a push cart vendor in a local market. He was the sole breadwinner for his family,” said the official.
A large number of tribesmen and security officials have been killed or maimed in landmine explosions in Kurram Agency since 2013. The mines are planted by militants mainly to target security forces convoys.
