NEPRA notification: Lower electricity bills for Karachi consumers
Power tariff cut of Rs1.73 per unit for K-Electric’s consumers

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has notified a power tariff cut of Rs1.73 per unit for K-Electric’s consumers.
The move will bring relief to as many as two million Karachi dwellers who will enjoy lower bills for the next three months – December, January and February, Nepra officials said.
The authority has approved and notified a decrease in power prices under fuel price adjustment for April, May and June, 2014. The per unit price of electricity has been reduced by 61paisa, 81paisa and 31paisa, respectively, for the three months.
According to Nepra, significant reduction in the fuel cost – amounting to Rs2.5 billion – was recorded during the three months.
In the month of April, K-Electric subscribers consumed 1.33 billion units of electricity while power consumption in Karachi during May and June, remained 1.43 billion and 1.55 billion units of electricity, respectively.
However, the total Rs1.73 per unit cut in power prices will not be applicable to domestic consumers using 50 units a month, they added.
