Lofty aims: ‘Will make Pakistan a poor-friendly state’
Qadri wows to transform Pakistan into citadel of peace
LAHORE:
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri said on Friday that he would transform the nation into a citadel of peace with the support of overseas Pakistanis.
He was speaking to PAT workers on his arrival at an airport in New York. In a statement issued on Friday Qadri vowed to make Pakistan a poor-friendly state. Qadri said he would also rid the nation of corruption and nepotism.
Qadri said had Pakistan been a true democracy the chief ministers of all the provinces would have accompanied Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on his visit to China. He said independent observers had already voiced reservations regarding the billions of dollars involved in the deals that the prime minister planned to ink during the visit. Qadri said it was not clear whether the funds involved were being provided in the form of foreign direct investment or loans.
He said there would have been no need to stage a sit-in against the government if the parliamentarians had been effectively discharging their duties. Qadri said the entire system was rotten and biased against the poor. He said the PAT would overhaul the system to provide the dispossessed with instant justice.
Qadri said justice had not been done in the case of those killed in the June 17 Model Town violence. He said the electoral process too had not been overhauled. He said functional local governments could empower the people and enable them to be the masters of their destiny.
