Tariff Adjustment: NEPRA ignores rules, says K-Electric

K-Electric asked to return Rs5.4b to users

KARACHI:
K-Electric, while clarifying a news story titled “K-Electric asked to return Rs5.4b to users”, has said that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has ignored its own rules while making adjustment in the tariff for October to December 2013. “The tariff adjustment is flawed and based on incorrect calculation,” said K-Electric in a press release. Nepra’s decision also did not comply with the mechanism prescribed in the 2009 determination, it said, adding this came at a time when the circular debt owed by the federal government and public sector enterprises to K-Electric had surged to Rs103.8 billion. “We had no option but to file a case in the Sindh High Court, which last week stopped the government from notifying the Nepra’s determination, and the stay remained in place in proceedings on November 6 in a related case.”
