Milking It: SHC asks commissioner to file report
Rana Faizul Hasan says retailers are charging customers over Rs80 per litre
KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the city commissioner to submit a report outlining action taken against milk-sellers for selling adulterated and unhygienic milk at hiked prices while hearing two identical petitions about this issue. One of the petitioners, Rana Faizul Hasan, the secretary of an NGO, submitted that the commissioner had fixed the price of fresh milk at Rs70 per litre, but retailers were charging customers over Rs80 per litre. He alleged that vendors had fleeced over Rs60 million from consumers by selling milk at exorbitant prices. He added that adulterated milk was being sold, which was injurious to health. He said that the authorities had failed to maintain the notified price and prevent the sale of adulterated milk.
