DERA GHAZI KHAN:

Daily-wage workers of the tehsil muncil administration (TMA) staged a protest demonstration on Thursday against the delay in the payment of their salaries.

The workers and their children staged a token hunger-strike in front of the commissioner’s office.

The workers said that they had not been paid their salaries for two months.

Kafeel Haider, one of the protesters, said that their families faced starvation. “The TMA has funds to pay big contractors on time. However, they tell us they do not have the funds to pay us our meagre salaries,” he said.

They appealed to the chief minister to take notice of the issue.

After the protest, Dera Ghazi Khan Commissioner Saqib Aziz ordered DCO Nadeemur Rehman to release the workers’ salaries. The administration then paid them one month’s salary.

The protesters then ended the protest and dispersed from the area.
