FAISALABAD:

Police claimed on Thursday to have killed a robber in a shootout. City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Habib Tajik told The Express Tribune on Thursday that a police contingent, Thikriwala SHO Muhammad Jahangir Khan, was on a routine patrol late on Wednesday night when they saw three people riding an unmarked motorcycle near Sadhar Mor.

“The police signalled the motorcyclists to stop. However, they started firing shots at the police party and fled. The policemen returned fire and chased them. One of the motorcyclists received serious bullet injuries and fell down on the road. His accomplices escaped,” Tajik said. “The police took the injured robber to a hospital. However, he died on the way. Before dying, he told policemen that his name was Nazar Baloch alias Langra and that he was a resident of Chak 49-RB Balochwala,” the CPO said. He said that police had seized a pistol and bullets from the deceased. “Baloch was wanted to Dijkot, Thikriwala, D-Type, Batala Colony, Saddar and Jhang Bazaar police stations in more than 20 cases of robbery, murder and attempted murder. He was feared in the area,” Tajik said. “His accomplices Arshad Lohar, Naveed Paand and Rana Rashid have been killed earlier in encounters with police,” he said.

The CPO formed a police team under the supervision of Saddar DSP Saleem Warraich to look for the suspects who had escaped arrest on Thursday.
