Saving heritage: Archaeology dept starts work on shrine

The Punjab Archaeology Department on Thursday started work to repair walls and floor of the mausoleum of Hazrat Shah Rukn-i-Alam.


Water seeping into the foundations and under the floor of the mosque at the mausoleum had damaged its front wall, which had tilted by two inches as well as damaged the floor. The Punjab Auqaf Department has released a sum of Rs1 million for the scheme that will be completed in three months. Officials said that front wall of the mausoleum would be rebuilt after laying a concrete foundation. The floor of the mosque inside mausoleum would also be restored.
