Administrative matter?: Three DCs removed from office

An official from the chief secretary's office also said that the removal was just an administrative decision

KARACHI:

The Chief Minister House on Wednesday ordered the removal of three deputy commissioners (DCs) from their post with immediate effect, The Express Tribune has learnt.

DC South Mustafa Jamal Qazi, DC Korangi Zubair Channa and DC East Samiuddin Siddiqui have been removed under this order. They will be replaced by Saleem Rajput, Asif Jaan Siddiqui and Agha Pervaiz respectively, according to a notification issued by the provincial Services, General Administration and Coordination department on Wednesday.

"The decision was taken some days ago but the chief minister issued the official notification today [Wednesday]," confirmed Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, adding that he did not know why the removals were made all of a sudden. "They were satisfactorily discharging their responsibilities and we did not have any complaints against them."

Despite several attempts to contact the provincial chief secretary, he was unavailable to give comments. However, an official from the chief secretary's office also said that the removal was just an administrative decision, adding that he was baffled as to why the media was taking it seriously.

One of the removed DCs also claimed that the decision had been manipulated by powerful people. "They did not want me there because I used my power to stop them from wrongdoings," he told The Express Tribune. "An influential government official recently gave an order about legalising landgrabbing in my jurisdiction. I refused and so they removed me."
