PESHAWAR:

A mother and her two children who were killed in the Wagah border suicide attack in Lahore last week were laid to rest in the city on Monday.

Muhammad Sadiq, a resident of Waziristan who works in Abu Dhabi, had recently returned to Pakistan along with his wife Mir Bibi and children Izazur Rehman, 15, and Hamza Rehman, 9. They decided to visit Lahore and went to see the famous flag-lowering ceremony at Wagah during their trip. That is when tragedy struck and three of them were killed, along with over 55 others.

“They (the deceased) were residents of Lalazar Colony inside University Campus,” one of their neighbours told The Express Tribune. “Since Muhammad Sadiq had returned to Pakistan from Abu Dhabi, he decided to go to Lahore with his wife and kids.”

The neighbour added Sadiq himself was injured in the attack. The bodies of his wife and children remained in the hospital for several days. Family members were finally approached by the Lahore police and informed of their untimely demise.

Earlier, on Sunday, a suicide bomber launched a suicide attack during a popular flag-lowering ceremony.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, a spokesperson for the group TTP-JA, said he had warned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that attacks in India were in the pipeline.
