Police action: Violators of Muharram security plan booked
DI Khan DPO says tight security measures kept untoward incidents at bay .
DI KHAN:
Cantt police have lodged separate cases against four people in DI Khan for violating the Muharram security plan by taking out unauthorised or delayed processions in the city and its outskirts.
According to a statement issued from the office of the DI Khan DPO, Cantt SHO Minhaj Sikandar lodged a case against Irshad Hussain and Abid Hussain under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for taking out unauthorised processions from Zayarat Hazrat Ali in Kachi Payanda Khan and Tahla Hazrat Abbas in Toi Faza areas, respectively.
Similarly, cases were registered against Matiullah and Arif Raza for delaying their processions by about 25-30 minutes in reaching Kotle Imam where all processions were supposed to gather.
Peaceful conclusion
All Muharram processions concluded peacefully in the district because of the cooperation of security agencies, aman committees and the public, said DPO Sadiq Hussain Baloch on Wednesday while speaking to the media. “This year, there was complete harmony among Sunnis and Shias and members of both sects exhibited brotherhood,” said Baloch. According to the DPO, 44 processions were taken out on Youm-e-Ashura under tight security.
“We worked day and night to keep the people safe. CCTV cameras were installed across the procession’s routes and DIG Dera monitored security from the control room set up in his office,” said Baloch.
DI Khan is among the sensitive districts in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in terms of sectarian conflict and has seen violence in the past, however, this year Muharram passed peacefully. Security remained at high alert, routes of the processions were sealed off by containers, while mobile services were suspended and pillion riding was banned to prevent any untoward incident.
