Missing persons’ cases: Court seeks oversight reports of two brothers
The Peshawar High Court has sought oversight board reports of two brothers who are detained in Kohat and Lakki Marwat internment centres and their cousin who died in custody.
While hearing petitions related to enforced disappearances on Wednesday, a PHC bench comprising Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Roohul Amin Khan was informed that Afsaruddin and Ghaffaruddin were picked up from Hangu on March 3 along with their cousin Anwaruddin.
The whereabouts of the three men remained unknown for a while but on March 10 police handed over Anwar’s body to the family. However, Afsar and Ghaffar remain in custody, their father Haji Saeed Gul told the court.
The petitioner further said that after receiving Anwar’s body, the family went to register an FIR but the police station’s officials refused to do so.
Deputy Attorney General Manzoor Khalil and Additional Advocate General Waqar Ahmad Khan represented the government at the hearing.
The bench later ordered that the oversight board reports of the two detainees and a complete report of the deceased be produced in the court at the next hearing.
