Pillion riding ban lifted, cellular networks resume working

Cellular services restored in Peshawar after a 48 hour blackout

The pillion riding ban in Karachi and Lahore, imposed on October 29 by the respective interior ministries, was lifted on Wednesday, Express News reported.   

Tthe ban was imposed for three days, from Moharram 8 to 10 following security concerns during the Ashura processions.

In Lahore, during the ban, as many as 1,360 people were booked for violating the ban while 360 bikes were confiscated.


Thousands of security personnel had been deployed to maintain strict security for Muharram processions. Officials had also set up command and control centres to monitor the security situation through an extensive web of close circuit video cameras.

Cellular networks restored

Cellular networks have also been restored in major cities including Karachi and Lahore.

In Peshawar, cellular services were restored following a blackout that lasted 48 hours.
