Condemnation: Indian PM denounces ‘shocking’ attack

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in the Wagah suicide bombing as his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi condemned the ‘shocking’ and ‘dastardly’ attack.


Premier Nawaz extended condolences to the bereaved families and sought a report from the authorities over the incident. He also directed the interior ministry and law enforcement agencies to provide all necessary support to the Punjab government in investigating the incident and to bring the perpetrators of this human tragedy to justice.

The Indian leader also denounced the attack. “Terror attack in Pakistan near Wagah Border is shocking. I strongly condemn such a dastardly act of terrorism,” Modi said on his official account on micro-blogging website Twitter. “My condolences to the families of the deceased. Prayers with the injured.”






Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced financial assistance of Rs500,000 each for the heirs of the dead and Rs75,000 each for the critically injured and Rs25,000 each for those who received minor injuries in the attack.

He directed his Ministers Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Bilal Yasin to reach the Ghurki Hospital and the Shalamar Hospital to ensure the best possible treatment to the injured.

The chief minister said such cowardly acts could not dent the resolve of our brave armed forces, the rangers and the people, adding that the operation against terrorists would continue with the public support till its success.
