Crime against children : Twin girls left to drown saved

Residents of Dunyapur on Sunday saved twin infants from drowning after they were thrown in a canal.

MULTAN: Residents of Dunyapur on Sunday saved twin infants from drowning after they were thrown in a canal. Muhammad Altaf told Rescue 1122 that he was standing by Dunyapur canal when a man riding a motorbike stopped on the other side of the canal. He said the man was accompanied by a woman wearing a veil. He said the woman was carrying a large bag. Altaf said the man took the bag from the woman and placed it at the edge of the bank. He said the couple then fled. On hearing cries from the bag, he jumped in the canal and pulled out the bag. He said when he opened it, he found two infant girls. Residents of the area called Rescue 1122. The children were taken to the emergency ward at Nishtar Medical Institute in Multan. Emergency Director Pervez Haider told The Express Tribune that the girls had been born a few hours earlier. He said when they been brought to the hospital, they had swallowed some water. He said their condition was now stable. He said police was informed and were looking for the parents.
