Street anger: Hundreds protest against police over rising crimes

Hundreds of people staged a protest demonstration in Ghulam Muhammadabad on Sunday against police for failing to check the rising incidents of street crime.
The protesters gathered at the Nabha Road and blocked it.
They chanted slogans against police and demanded immediate action against the SHO. Abdul Lateef, one of the protesters, said robberies had become routine in the locality.
“Criminals snatch cash and valuables from people in broad daylight. Two days ago, a government employee was robbed in the area. Police have been unable to trace the criminals. Police refuse to register cases following many such incidents. Instead, the complainants are harassed and forced to withdraw their complaints,” Lateef said.
“Last Saturday (October 26), two people were robbed on Nabha Road as well. No case has been registered yet,” he said. The protesters staged a sit-in at Nabha Road.
The Gulberg police deputy superintendent (DSP) talked to the protesters and assured them that action would be taken against police officers.
The protesters dispersed on receiving the assurance.
