Drought in Tharparkar: Death toll reaches 116 as infant dies in hospital
Thirty two children have lost their lives in Oct and Nov alone in the drought-hit district
MITHI:
As Sindh Health Department and elected representatives of Tharparkar continue to ignore the plight of those affected by drought, one more newborn died of malnutrition in Mithi's Civil Hospital, Express News reported on Sunday.
The death toll from drought for October and November has risen to 39 in the district, including 32 children, while 116 people in total have lost their lives in the last four months.
Two other drought-affected children, reportedly in critical condition, were also moved to Hyderabad for medical treatment.
Despite the growing number of deaths, the provincial authorities fail to take steps to address the issue. Recently, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had claimed that not a single death of a child occurred owing to hunger or medical negligence in Tharparkar district. He said he would tender an apology if his statement was disproved.
