Curbing dengue: Minister asks officials to double efforts
Says performance of each department engaged in this task will be reviewed separately to fill gaps
In a bid to control the rise in the number of dengue cases, Punjab Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has directed all concerned officers to reinforce their efforts for dengue control in Rawalpindi.
He said the performance of each department engaged in this task will be reviewed separately to fill gaps, besides extensive follow-ups to irradiate larvae still found inside the buildings.
Sarwar issued these directives in a meeting held in the office of commissioner Rawalpindi on Saturday to review anti-dengue activities.
The minister admired efforts of all government departments and officers of administration for dengue control measures and asked the elected representatives to actively participate in public awareness activities.
He also stressed for initiating community orientation activities to raise awareness among general public about dengue control methods.
Speaking on the occasion, Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed said dengue larvae surveillance activities had been enhanced with the close coordination of district, town and cantonment administrations.
District Health Officer Dr Khalid Randhawa presented a briefing about the latest position of dengue prevalence in the city and said all indicators reflected a decrease in the number of cases.
Dengue cases have been on the rise in the garrison city, with almost 700 people being infected at government hospitals. Moreover, the disease has also spread to Islamabad where at least 10 people have reportedly contracted the disease.
