Academic success: 50% candidates clear Matric’s supplementary examinations
Over 9,500 students sat the exam as a second attempt at passing or securing more marks.

Nearly half of the 9,531 candidates who sat for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) supplementary exam this year were declared successful by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Abbottabad on Saturday.
According to Assistant Controller Moazam Khan, candidates who gave the supplementary exams were either those who had failed the annual exam or those who wished to improve their marks to meet the eligibility criteria for further education.
A total of 9,531 candidates, including 3,880 girls appeared for the supplementary exam held in September.
Out of these only 4,797 candidates passed.
Sharing the breakup of the result, Khan said 3,292 students from the science group appeared in the exam, including 857 female candidates. However, only 1,436 male and 491 female candidates passed.
From the humanities group, 2,996 female and 3,096 male candidates appeared for the exam. Of these, 1,561 female and 1,218 male candidates passed. Similarly, from the computer science group, 16 out of 27 girls and 75 out of 119 boys cleared the exam on their second try.
The assistant controller further said that out of those who passed only two students secured the A1 grade, 21 got grade A, 407 obtained B grade, while 2,114 and 2,024 secured C and D grades, respectively.
Khan told The Express Tribune that they caught 12 students using unfair means to pass the exam. One student was caught on the charges of impersonation and the candidate he was impersonating has been barred from sitting the exams for three years.
However, Khan said the other 11 candidates who were caught cheating in the paper during which they were caught, and they will only be able to sit the exam next year.
