The decision was taken in view of rising cost of inputs.
“As inflation and input cost have increased manifolds, it would be hard for farmers to look for reasonable savings from upcoming wheat crop if the support price is less than Rs1,500 per 40kg”, said Haji Ramzan of Kissan Board Pakistan.
The national target set for the staple crop for year 2014-15 is 25 million tonnes with a total area of 21.4 million hectares to be cultivated.
Agri experts believe the targets being set by the government for wheat may not meet the growing population demand, which is increasing at 2.5% per annum.
Previously, the government had decided in March to keep wheat support prices unchanged at Rs1,200 per 40 kilogrammes, while approving a procurement target of 8 million tonnes for the new crop.
The last increase was announced just months before the 2013 general elections when the Pakistan Peoples Party government raised the support price for wheat by Rs150 per 40kg to Rs1,200, up by 14.3%.

Proof of Wadeera's government
@chachoo brother while mentioning Indian support price it would have been prudent had you mentioned the price of imputs indian farmers pay while Pakistani farmers pay full price for all inputs the indian farmer is highly subsidized. So the final price is not truly a correct indicator for the savings for a farmer.
@Ch. Allah Daad: Chaudary Sahab i can understand that you have a piece of land and you are happy with this decision but do you know the ground realities at all? With this step the prices of Wheat and Flour will be increased to a record level. Already Pakistan has the highest support price for the wheat in this region. India has Rs ( Indian Currency) 1400 Per 100 Kilograms and that equates to 14 Indian Rupees per Kilogram or 22.4 Pakistani Rupees per kg.
On the other hand we have a support price of 1300 per 40 Kg or Rs 32 per Kg ( Rs 3250 per 100 Kilograms ) and that more than 10 Rs per Kg higher than the Indian wheat. The price difference in Pakistani and Indian wheat is huge and that is the failure of the government to increase the support price rather than controlling the input price.
PMLN is proving to be the party of Wadairas rather than a Common man.
Increase in Wheat support price is not enough. It should be more than Rs. 2000 per 40 K.G. Its unfortunate that hard working honest farmers get nothing.
