Petrol pumps shut across Punjab to protest price reduction
Owners of petrol pumps insist on selling petrol at higher prices despite reduction announced by PM yesterday
LAHORE:
A day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a reduction in petrol prices, petrol pump owners across Punjab shut down petrol stations on Saturday to protest the reduction in prices, Express News reported.
Petrol pump owners in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur Sialkot and other cities in the province shut down pump stations, handicapping residents. Petrol stations that were still in operation were selling petrol above the market rate, some up to Rs110 per litre.
Just a day earlier, while addressing a special meeting of Cabinet in Islamabad, PM Nawaz announced that petrol prices had been reduced by 9.43 rupees per litre with effect from November 1, to provide relief to the public.
Petrol pump owners claimed that they had bought petrol at a higher price and would sell it at those prices till their stock ends. Taking notice of the situation, DCO Lahore said action was being taken against station owners and two owners were arrested as well.
