Army expands relief efforts in drought-hit areas
Ration points increased from four to twelve; more than 4,105 patients provided with medical assistance

The army has expanded its relief efforts in the drought-hit areas of Diplo, Mithi, Khinser, Rattan Jotar, Dhunai and Tharparkar, according to an ISPR press release.
Further, the number of ration distribution points have been increased from four to 12, and seven more medical relief camps have been established as well – making the total number of camps 11. More than 4,105 patients have been provided with medical assistance.
The army has also distributed 35 tons of ration among the drought affectees, and helicopters also air drop ration to people affected by drought.
On Thursday, October 31, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of reports of famine in Sindh and directed the Pakistan Army to provide immediate relief to the people of Tharparkar with the provision of food and medicine.
The premier also ordered the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to submit a report in this regard.
In the past 10 months, 40 people have committed suicide in Tharparkar, including two cases of mothers killing themselves along with their children, according to a report prepared by a local NGO, AWARE.
