LAHORE: The notorious and infamous vandal Gullu Butt will now have to spend quite a few years behind bars as the Anti-Terrorism Court on Thursday awarded 11 years and three months imprisonment to Shahid Nazeer, better known by his alias Gullu Butt.

He is charged with vandalising vehicles and property during violence in Model Town on June 17, 2013.

The ATC judge Rai Ayub Khan Marth also imposed fine of Rs111,000 on the convict. In case the vandal fails to pay up the amount, he will face a further jail term, the court maintained.

After the conviction Gullu was immediately arrested by the police and shifted to camp jail. Interestingly, Gullu chanted slogans of ‘Go Nawaz, Go’ when police ushered him to jail in prison van.

The court has indicted Gullu under the charges of vandalism and attacking police officials in the Model Town case which had claimed lives of 14 innocent people.

Previously, the Investigation Officer Muhammad Aijaz, while recording his statement before the court, stated that Gullu Butt had fired gunshots and vandalised vehicles. He said that when police tried to stop Gullu from smashing vehicles he fired gunshots which caused panic among the protestors.

However, he said that nobody got injured due to the gunshots and police had not received any complaint from the owners of the smashed vehicles. The other prosecution witnesses in their statements had declared Gullu responsible for Model Town vandalism.
