Road safety: 45 wake-up points set-up on highways

Scores of wake-up points have been established at various locations on highways and motorways following a directive by National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General (IG) Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema. The IG had directed all deputy inspector generals (DIGs) to establish the points in October. 45 such points were established in this regard. The initiative has been taken to refresh tired drivers. Motorway police officials stop all kinds of vehicles at these spots for some time to help drivers freshen-up. They stress the need to wash faces, consume hot beverages and take short walks to remain alert. The initiative has been taken to ensure road safety by attempting to reduce instances of traffic accidents caused due to people falling asleep while driving.
